I can't not?

Ya know? It's like birds fly and bears cr@p in the woods or something?

A driving force; beginning somewhere on the inside of me and then finding its way out into the world.

But I'm willing, y'know?

Those early Jason Silva videos really spoke to me in college... where he would riff rhapsodically on different ideas and possibilities for a few minutes? You know the ones.

An idea that always stuck out to me was from his video on imagination. He alluded to this unique conception of humans as something like imagination machines... Like we have these ideas and extrude them out into the world around us!

Something about that wording made sense to me, like a little puzzle piece that clicked into place.

So, why The Brodcast? Why all these lyrics and songs? Why the shows we organize, the closet recording studios, the missed social events? Why ride the ups and downs of a creative life? Why write those 3 pages everyday?

Well, there's something inside of me...and perhaps I've just convinced myself that I'm here to let it out.

(P.S. highly recommend watching one of those videos)

"Clear Mind" [Experiment 02]

Kombucha is a fermented, probiotic drink (aka it's aliiive)

All that good bacteria is really good for your gut.

It's a tiny bit alcoholic and creates a subtle buzzy kinda feeling. It just tastes bomb to me because it's carbonated but it's not sweet like soda, and it doesn't cloud me up like beer.

There's a kombucha flavor by Brew Dr. Kombucha called 'Clear Mind' that I was hooked on for a while.

They come in a sweet stubby bottle.

Anyway, I was drinking a lot of that when I made this song. It kinda gave me the idea.

I made the beat and then took it to Nima Skeemz at the Ruby Room to tighten it up.

Holly and I recorded it in her kitchen.

And the lyrics:

“I said empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water…” - BRUCE LEE
clear mind
music inside
and i can hear mine
it’s got me vibing and smiling ear-to-ear
find beauty its the duty of the artists
and it’s near time…
but we don’t let it slip away
so see me pullin’ my dreams into 3D
I can’t say that its easy
but nothing every felt so right
I know i should be working 9 to 5
but that traditional jive
just doesn’t fit with my vibe
i need some freedom to
ride slow
eyes close
breathing in the timezone changes
check in with the angels guarding me
influence is hard to see
advertisers target me
until i wonder if my “needs” even start with me
like - buy this! try that! fast food! diet fads! ipads!
just want a little piece and quiet fam
.. take a breath into my diaphragm
introspection got me sketching out the diagram…
let go what you cannot control
focus on the things that you can change
and keep on mastering your role
we’ve only got so little time
don’t waste it overthinking
staying trapped up in your mind…
(they get you goin', goin’
STOP
cuz focus is power
so where your hours go?
plant your seeds in the ground
and watch the flowers grow
then pick the crops of your labor
pass em off to your neighbor
walkin and talkin in nature
just let your thoughts turn to vapor…
and let em drift away
off into infinity
we live and we play
sorting out our gifts so we can give em away
just gotta give it away
just gotta give it away
just give-it-and-open up your mind
make some space
find the time
break away from limitation
we can make it all sublime, baby
feel it in my gut
then i draw it out in rhymes, baby
everyone divine
feel it creeping up your spine, baby
focus on your role and pay attention to the signs baby
they get you goin crazy?
stop and take a breath in..
re-connection to your heartbeat’s direction
let go what you cannot control
(you can not control)
don’t stay trapped in your mind
we only got so little time
let go what you cannot control
focus on the things that you can change
and keep on mastering your role
we’ve only got so little time
don’t waste it overthinking
staying trapped up in your mind…
they get you goin', goin’
STOP

"Dirt" [Experiment 01]

"Dirt" by The Brodcast

[ya, spelled 'brodcast' -- put that auto correct away.]

I've been making music with varying levels of focus for 8 years.

For me, music is a vehicle to spread ideas and feelings. I love it because it goes beyond words and can be used for medicine, motivation, and making connections.

Music, unlike the news or politics or sports, can represent and strengthen the voice of the people.

I see it as a given that we're living in real critical times -- and I strive to keep that in my heart and mind as I go through my day to day, and especially when I create.

This song is called "Dirt." It's about staying grounded and walking the path while you're dreaming those big dreams.

I made it in my bedroom last year using my voice, a cheap microphone, and some basic Logic Pro synths via an axiom 25.

I took it to a Seattle studio called the Ruby Room where Nima Skeemz, a producer and engineer, helped me put some polish on it and track the verse.

Moving forward, I'm looking for other producers to work with, as I don't have any gear for making beats right now.

I've got a lot of concepts and can write a song in an hour if the beat's right.

Peace.

These are the lyrics:

"Dirt"

it’s all in the vibe
all in the way that we keep it alive
all in the feeling you feeling inside
when you know it’s a ride
only here til we die…(die)
path of the stars
all about finding the giants we are
open the heart even when it gets hard
playing your part and the ripples go far
it might be a smile
it might be some art
it might be a while before you see the return
but dammit, it’s worth it for all that you learn
pursuing the purpose you here on this earth (earth earth)
and nothing is perfect so don’t get caught up in just judging your work (work work)
just start planting seeds and see what you grow when they rise from the dirt (dirt dirt)
i don’t know why
but we’re here for a while
just to see what could work
(just to see what could work)
look to the stars
while i’m dreaming but
still got my feet in this dirt
planting my seeds
just to see what could grow out of all this
intention, attention and love
this path of the stars I been walking and
what it’s gon’ make me become
just to see what could grow out of all this
intention, attention and love
this path of the stars I been walking and
what it’s gon’ make me become
